Read it! It is wonderful. I never read it until I was in my 20s and I am so sorry I didn't read it sooner. If you do decide to watch a filmed version, skip the Keira Knightley one -- you will miss too much of the book, and they changed a lot of things around -- and watch the BBC version with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth instead.
I'm reading it for school too. My tips: watch the movie, then use sparknotes
